TALENTED trainer Rohan Hillier is proud of his broodmare Flo Jo Fernandez that has a knack of producing foals that win on debut.

Flo Jo Fernandez (Ticket To Heaven-Flo Jo Torado) has produced four foals to race and all have won at their first start.

In Launceston on Monday night her youngest son Chopstix Boris scored an impressive win on debut in Launceston in a 2C0 over 1680 metres with Hillier in the sulky.

Flo Jo Fernandez was talented on the racetrack winning nine and being placed as many times from only 32 starts and while she didn’t win on debut she finished a close second and she won her next two starts as a two-year-old and went on to win the Bandbox Stakes at three after being placed second to Chip And Gale in the 2001 Tasmanian Oaks.

But her progeny have all gone early and three of her foals, Hillbilly Delux, Thirsty Mach and Chopstix Boris, have won on debut at two while Lilbitachickenfried debuted at three with a convincing win in Hobart in a 3A0 over 2090 metres.

“There wouldn’t be too many mares, if any, that have produced four debut winners from four foals,” Hillier said.

Chopstix Boris went into Monday night’s assignment on the back of a couple of handy trials that convinced punters to back him in to start the $2.10 favourite.

“You can never be too confident in two-year-old races because it is usually the horse that gets the best run in the race that wins.”

“This colt is a ready-to-run horse and I think he’ll get better with racing,” Hillier said.

Hillier races Chopstix Boris in partnership with his twin brother Troy, Andrew Baxter and Danny Bennett.
