It was a long time coming but Kristy Grant’s first wining drive at Carrick today was met with thunderous applause and cheers as she crossed the line first aboard seven-year-old gelding Glory Is Illusive that is trained by her grandfather Dick Eaves.
Grant had Glory Is Illusive settled in the one-out-one-back position early in the race and when the pace quickened heading down the back straight the last time she waited until he right moment to ease her charge out three-wide to stake his claim..
Glory Is Elusive Topnotcher-Kanungra Koala) gained the upper hand at the top of the home straight and went o to score comfortably from Almondine Gem and Love This Life.
Grant said she has been trying to win a race for just over a year but she was ecstatic that it was aboard one that is from her favourite horse Kanungra Koala that was trained by her grandfather and was considered one of Tasmania’s best two and three-year-olds.
Kanungra Koala won a NSW Oaks as well as many feature two and three-year-old races in Tasmania.
