In Brief
- Wynburn Sheean to start a short price fav.
- Wynyard trainer has qualified three runners for Tuesday's feature.
- Nine race card gets underway at 12:41.
Talented chaser Wynburn Sheean will be sent to the boxes as a short price favourite in Tuesday’s George and Eileen Johnston Puppy Championship in Devonport.
The Ashton Dee Bee – She’s All Class dog ran a personal best 25.30s when winning his heat from box one last week, where he flew out in a slick first section of 7.85s on his way to a 6 1/4 length win over Parkour.
“He hit the lids really nice and to run those sort of sections shows how he is in really good shape at the moment, and fingers crossed he stays healthy and sound and continues on,” said Wynburn Sheean’s trainer Ben England.
“If he can run that quick split again you would think he would be up the front somewhere and you can make your own luck from there,” added the Wynyard-based trainer.
The trainer has indicated next month’s Group 3 Devonport Chase (Heats 17 Nov and Final 24 Nov) is on the raider for the progressive talent given the chaser will just miss out on the age limit for the Gold Collar series in Launceston.
England has also qualified two other runners for Tuesday’s $4,240 to-the-winner final.
Wynburn Express ran 25.86s from box eight when defeated 3 1/2 lengths by Quick Joey Small in his heat last week.
“He drew the wrong side of the track last week as he prefers the inside and he is ready to run a big race,” said England, with the chaser coming up with box three.
While Langley Roo broke his maiden in last week’s heat in 25.94s from box eight, when backed in from $41 into $26 on the Tasracing Official Price.
“He has a large group of owners, and they didn’t miss out, they had a good collect between them all and it was good to see him finally get up for a win,” said the trainer about the chaser who had been placed in two of seven starts before the victory.
“He has been very unlucky in all of the starts he has been in, and he finally got some luck up along the rail where he wanted to be,” added Englund.
Langley Roo retains the pink rug with the trainer, believing it is the “wrong side of the track for him.”
Early market: $1.70 Wynburn Sheean, $4.00 Highland Chief, $6.50 Vintage Fame, $8.00 Parkour and Quick Joey Small, $17 Highland Wonder, $26 Wynburn Express and $67 Langley Roo.
The George and Eileen Johnson Puppy Championship, is named after the 2009 Hall Of Fame inductees and is race six on a nine-race card that gets underway at 12:41.
Watch Wynburn Sheean fly the lids to lead from box one on 20 October.
