Talented jockey-trainer Siggy Carr might have been out of action in the saddle due to a one-meeting suspension, but she made up for it by training three winners on the nine-event card in Launceston on Wednesday night.
Carr saddled up Northern Spirit to win a 1420-metre maiden and followed up with Coronation Pia in a 0-60 handicap over 1620 metres, but it was her favourite horse Invincible Rock with David Pires aboard that stole the show for the stable.
“I didn’t expect Invincible Rock to win tonight because I thought he would need the run, but he surprised me and it’s great,” Carr said.
“That’s my first treble and to have two of my favourite horses (Coronation Pia and Invincible Rock) be a part of it is a bonus.”
Invincible Rock was one of the first horses sent to her by one of her most prominent owners, Ben Kirkup.
“The Kirkup family has supported me from day one and they continue to send horses to me.”
Jockey David Pires also has a soft spot for Invincible Rock.
“This horse was one that I rode when making my return from a serious hip injury and one day at the beach he tried to flip me and it was then that I realised that my hip would handle the pressure and vagaries of riding,” Pires said.
“That incident was a turning point for me as I made my comeback to race riding,”
Invincible Rock ($8.50) led with Artuso ($4.20) parked outside to the home turn.
But when rider Troy Baker went for Artuso he could not match it with the leader that found another gear when called on by Pires to put the finishing touches to his effort.
Baker partnered two of Carr’s winners in Northern Spirit and Coronation Pia.
