Six-year-old pacer Aapennon continued his love affair with the Hobart rack with another impressive win on Tuesday night.

Four of Aapennon’s past five wins have been on the Tattersall’s Park circuit and while the wins have been well spaced the gelding has an unquestionable liking for the southern circuit.

Aapennon was allowed to settle near the rear of the field by driver Rohan Hadley who had him in the one-out line and poised to pounce in the back straight the last time.

Race leader Truly Blissful upped the tempo at the bell but was joined by the odds-on favourite Saturday Nights ($1.40) that gained the upper hand turning for home.

But when Hadley called on Aapennon for the supreme effort in the straight the gelded son of The Wrath Of Pan dug deep and hit the line over a metre clear of the favourite with Ashkalini the same margin away third and just in advance of Biggernbettermax.

Aapennon clocked a last half (800m) of 58.07 seconds and recorded a mile rate over the 2090-metre trip of 1m.59.02s.

It was the Shelley Barnes-trained gelding’s eighth career win from only 32 starts.

Aapennon has had his share of injuries that have deprived him from realizing his full potential.
