LAST year Brighton thoroughbred trainer Gary White had high hopes that his well-bred filly Rich Bonus was up to winning races interstate.

Rich Bonus (Danerich-Bonus Halo) won a two-year-old maiden on debut and at her next start five months later she dispensed with a quality class one field in Launceston just prior to turning three.

She had done enough on home soil to encourage connections to slip her across the water for a crack at some of the better fillies’ races in Melbourne.

But sometimes even the best laid plans can go belly up and such was the case with Rich Bonus.

She had two starts in Melbourne for two unflattering efforts so she was sent home for a break.

After another two poor performances on home soil she was diagnosed with problems with both fetlock joints and all of a sudden her racing career was in jeopardy.

But the owners, Adrian, Suzzette and Frank Gray, John and Rosemary Erends, Milton and Heather Lowe and Robert and Donna Button, agreed to give White full rein to try and rejuvenate the now four-year-old mare’s career.

Given the mare’s three efforts this time in it would appear she is well on the way to realising the potential she showed as a two-year-old.
