In Brief

  • Amy Cora looks a suitable anchor for tonight’s quaddie.
  • Trainer believes the talented bitch is better suited to Launceston.
  • Cannan also owns another three greyhounds in the race.

After being placed in the Tasmanian State Sprint Championship at her last outing, Amy Cora will be an anchor in most punters quaddies when she lines up in the Greyhound Data Invitation over 515 meters in Launceston tonight.

The Debbie Cannan prepared greyhound is building up an impressive record winning 13 of her 21 starts and was only 3.5 lengths behind her kennel mate Sibera in Thursday’s feature.

“She is a young dog and is a bit like Siberia as she is still coming through and leaning the ropes,” said trainer Debbie Cannan after Thursday’s race on TasracingTV’s Live Stream coverage.

The shutdown of Tasmanian racing clearly hit the fitness of the greyhound industry the worse of the three codes with the trainer believing most greyhounds are starting to find their best form.

“The three months didn’t help any of our dogs, it’s not just me, it is everyone in Tasmania, it has put us back three months, and they are all just starting to find their feet now,” added Cannan.

Sent out as the $3.50 in a strong State Championship, Amy Cora settled in sixth spot before running into fourth spot after a bit of trouble on the first corner. The Barcia Bale – Pearl’s Legacy bitch ran on well in the straight to finish third recording 26.19s, and Cannan was pleased with the run.

“I can’t fault her, she just tries every time and has done a wonderful job (on Thursday),” said the trainer.

Amy Cora has had six starts in Launceston for four wins.

“I think she is a better Launceston dog on the circle track,” Cannan said.

Cannan is also in the ownership of another three greyhounds in tonight’s feature, including the second elect Mr. Comacho who draws the red box where he has had five starts for two wins and two placings in a 45 start career which has seen him win nine races and fourteen placings with a best time of 26.02s.

Connected in box five is another owned by Cannan, who finished sixth in the State Championship and is the winner of 15 races, with six of those victories coming in Launceston.

Cannan part-owns Chilled Out along with Barry Heawood.

The Above All – Wild Cindy Bitch has drawn box eight, and has gone around at long odds in her last two outings and opened as a $19 chance this morning.

The Greyhound Data Invitation is set down for race seven on the ten-race card.

Race one is set to commence at 19:30 with all of the action live-streamed on TasracingTV and also shown on Sky Racing 1.
