HARNESS trainer-driver Justin Campbell says he would like to have a stable full of horses that try as hard as Noelsgirl.
Campbell made the comment after the mare had scored a brilliant last-stride win in SEW Eurodrive Stakes over 2090 metres at Tattersall’s Park in Hobart on Sunday night.
Noelsgirl travelled comfortably just beyond midfield in the one-out line before leading the three-wide train in the back straight the last time.
The race leader Ponderosas Gamble looked to be travelling well and when he kicked clear at the top of the home straight he looked to have the race in his keeping but Noelsgirl ($9.50) finished powerfully to score narrowly from Winewomenandsong ($11) that also flashed home while Ponderosas Gamble ($4.50) hung on for third.
It was Noelsgirl’s fourth win of the season and it took her stake earnings beyond $40,000.
“When I got this mare she had won about $1800 in stakes so to take that beyond $40,000 in two seasons is quite an achievement for the mare,” Campbell said.
