GEE GEES FREE HERO, another of the Wordsmith breed, will make his debut in Launceston next Wednesday night and he will go into his first race on the back of an impressive trial win over 900 metres at UBET Park Hobart today.
The Leon Wells-trained gelding showed good early speed to lead and after cruising for 500 metres he lifted the tempo over the concluding stages to win by over a length from Aggie with Walling over six lengths astern.
Gee Gees Free Hero (Wordsmith-Ungalla) was ridden by Sigrid Carr who said the gelding had improved from his first trial in Hobart at the start of the month that he also won.
The gelding covered the 900 metres of his first trial in 1.00.47 but improved dramatically today by clocking 57.76 and he ran home his last 600 metres in 35.62.
Aggie (Moshe-Why For) ran home well to suggest the filly also could do well when she gets to the races.
Walling and French Connection, both prepared by Gary White, went around for educational purposes and were not as advanced as the winner and runner-up.
