Octane Assassin proved he is capable of matching it in next week’s Hobart Thousand heats with a runaway victory in last night’s Barry Heawood Hobart Prelude.
Whispering Blaze got the best of the start leading early with Eagle Eye missing the start again from one.
Whispering Blaze continued his liking for the Hobart circuit with the Assassin as usual unsure what to do just past the 340m boxes as he was wide and awkward but still within striking distance when a scrimmage developed and Mercury Morris and in particular Perfect Socks fell heavily disrupting the field.
This allowed the swooper Assassin to get on the rail and after hitting the corner in front he ran away to win by 6 ¼ from a game Whispering Blaze with Eagle Eye taking full advantage of the rail and the trouble to run third a further 1 ¾ lengths away.
Both Mercury Morris and Perfect Socks trailed the field in, sore but uninjured.
