In Brief

  • Talented litter set to shine in semi's.
  • Depth of semi’s demonstrates a bright future for the state.
  • Great days racing commences at 12:10.

An exciting day of chasing will be hosted by the North West Greyhound Racing Club in Devonport on Tuesday afternoon with the states best-bred youngsters contesting four semi-finals of the Custom Resources and Recruitment Breeders Classic on the 10-race card.

The Aston Dee Bee – She’s All Class litter that was whelped in October 2018 is one of many exciting litters in the state at present and the litter is well represented in each semi-final on Tuesday.

Vintage Fame is the first of the litter to step out in the first semi-final of the series, which is race three on the card.

The David Croswell-trained dog has won three of his last seven starts and has a handy record on the Devonport track where he has had four starts for two wins, with a PB of 25.96s, and his trainer expects him to add to that tally.

“He is well drawn (box two) and is in with a strong chance,” said Croswell about the $2.00 elect who is set to clash with debutante Recall who defeated Vintage Fame in the Qualifying Heat on 5 September by 3.75 lengths in 25.66s.

Highland Chief is the second of the talented litter to step out in race four, the second semi-final from box three.

The chaser has won four of his six starts and ran a PB in his qualifying heat of the series in 25.55s.

“He goes good, but he is badly drawn, I think Winklee Casey will come across him early, but if he gets the right sit on them, he is capable of doing anything,” said his trainer.

She’s It (box two) represents the Crosswell kennel in the third semi-final, but it is her littermate Wynburn Sheean (box six) who heads the market, and there is no doubt the Ben England-trained chaser is the one to beat in next week’s final.

Wynburn Sheean has had four starts for three wins and one second placing and ran the quickest time of the 16 heats in 25.41s.

“If she (She’s It) can run a place I will be happy, Wynburn Sheean will run a short price favourite in that heat,” said Croswell.

The last two representatives of the Aston Dee Bee – She’s All Class litter go around in the fourth and last semi-final with Highland Fame and Quick Joey Small, both from the Crossell kennel.

Highland Fame has drawn box one and is building up an impressive record of four wins from eight starts with three second placings to his credit while Quick Joey Small has won three from 10 but has finished runner up on five occasions.

“If Quick Joey Small can get a clear run out of the five box he is capable of running Highland Fame down,” said Crosswell.

“There is a couple of handy ones in there though, Ted Medhurst has Parkour in there and Ben England has Wynburn Express in there, both of those go good, it is the hardest heat,” added the Longford based trainer.

The first two placegetters in each semi-final qualify for the $5,050 final that will be held next Tuesday and there looks to be many talented greyhounds that will unfortunately miss out on the final demonstrating the depth of the Tasmanian breed.

The Devonport card commences at 12:10, where Highland Wonder will start the short price favourite, and you guessed it, he is also out of the Aston Dee Bee – She’s All Class litter.

“He will just win I reckon; he was a bit unlucky last week and this isn’t an overly strong race,” said Croswell.
