SMART pacer Babyitsu confirmed his status as Tasmania’s best four-year-old when he powered home to win the $30,000 Raider Stakes over 2665 metres at the Devonport Paceway tonight (Sunday).

Babyitsu faced the breeze outside of his archrival Make A Memory for most of the race but the Wayne Rattray-trained gelding made light of the task to draw clear of his rivals on the home turn and hit the line comfortably clear of Rememberpreece with Make A Memory hanging on for third just in advance of Nobeer Nocheer.

Babyitsu has been a model of consistency this season and this latest victory is his 10th from 14 outings.

The Mach Three-Breeze Baby gelding was bred by the Sunbury Pacing Complex and he spent his two-year-old season in the care of Neville Webberley where he often came up against Make A memory that was a stablemate.

When Webberley exited the training ranks Babyitsu was sold to Wayne and Gaye Rattray while make A Memory remained in the ownership of Col Johnstone and Brian Bonney but the horse was dispatched to Victorian trainer Lisa Miles.

Babyitsu has taken all before him this season, having won his way to open company with some of his wins including the Launceston Mile and Easter Cup Prelude and a heat and final of the Maxfield Drilling Raider Stakes
