THE connections of lightly raced four-year-old Bachelor’s Life were the orchestrators of a successful betting plunge that forced his price in from $21 to start at $6.
It was an old-fashioned plunge and one that was made on the confirmation from trainer Larry Dalco that the gelding was looking for a wet track and the UBET Park Hobart surface delivered that with a heavy 9 rating.
Bachelor’s Life (Swinging Bachelor-Savvy Rose) produced an eye-catching second at his previous start in Hobart two weeks ago when second to the highly promising Village Green.
The gelding was well ridden by apprentice Sherry Barr who had the four-year-old well placed travelling not far off the lead to the home turn.
When she called on the gelded son of Swinging Batchelor for the big effort in the home straight he delivered the goods to score by a handy margin from Kentucky Bound and Efleet that finished on the heels of the placegetters in that same race won by Village Green on April 26.
Marion Dalco, who was filling in for husband trainer Larry, said the gelding had always shown promise.
“We came to the conclusion that this horse needed a wet rack and the wetter the better and today’s conditions suited,” Mrs Dalco said.
“The winners told me that they backed him and got odds of $21 so they were rapt. It’s a great result all round,” she said.
With a liking for wet tracks Bachelor’s Life is likely to stay in work through the upcoming winter months.
