SUCCESSIVE wins on the Hobart track in the space of a week would suggest Brighton trainer Brendan Pursell has put his Midas touch on Bain’s Lane.

The dog was performing well for his previous trainer Richard Post but when he suffered a leg injury that prevented him from continuing his normal training regime, the dog’s owner Barrie Heawood opted to send the dog to Pursell.

Bain’s Lane had his first start for Pursell about six weeks after arriving in his kennels and while he won, the trainer was far from impressed.

“I trialled him three times in Hobart and to be honest I was expecting him to win first-up for me and run good rime but that didn’t happen,” Pursell said.

“The dog won but he only clocked 26.44 which I thought was below what he was capable of givenĀ  his trial times.”

However, last night (Thursday) Bain’s Lane delivered on what he promised in his trial.

He began well from box seven but not as well as Lashing Illusion that crossed him wearing the pink vest.

Bain’s Lane then crossed down to the rail and burrowed underneath the leader at the top turn and sped clear.

He extended his lead all the3 way up the home straight to score a runaway win in a strong grade four and clocked 26.21 over the 461-metre trip.

“This latest win was better because he ran good time and I’m sure there is further improvement there,” he said.

Bain’s Lane is a welcome addition to Pursell’s kennel but he also has a potential Hobart Thousand candidate arrive recently in the form of Pedro’s Runaway that will make his Tasmanian debut in Hobart next Tuesday.

“We will see how Pedro’s Runaway goes on Tuesday and if he runs well then we will go onto the heats of the Hobart Thousand,” Pursell said.
