TASMANIA’S recent Mornington Cup winner Banca Mo will have his next start in the $650,000 Group 1 weight-for-age Doomben Cup over 2000 metres at Doomben in Queensland on Saturday.
The Scott Brunton-trained gelding will board a plane at 11pm tonight in Melbourne for a 2-1/2 hour flight to Brisbane and will be subsequently floated to Richard Laming’s stables at Jacobs Well on the Gold Coast.
Brunton is delighted with his stable star’s condition leading up to Saturday’s race.
“I couldn’t be happier with the horse,” Brunton said from Melbourne today.
“He has never been in better nick for a big race and provided he travels well and there are no hitches with transportation in the air and on the ground I expect him to run a huge race on Saturday,” he said.
Banca Mo was placed third and second respectively in the Hobart and Launceston Cups before scoring an emphatic win in the Mornington Cup which gave the gelding ballot free entry into next season’s Group 1 Caulfield Cup.
