QUALITY Tasmanian galloper Banca Mo is being touted as a genuine major cups contender in Tasmania following his impressive win over 1800 metres at Flemington last Saturday.

Banca Mo produced arguably the best win of his career when Ben Knobel guided the gelding to san eight-length win in the Rising Stars final on a rain affected track.

Co-trainer Scott Brunton was delighted with the outcome and in a post-race interview with TVN he said the gelding showed enormous potential and would most likely be aimed towards the Hobart and or Launceston Cups.

A bit of water must flow under the bridge before that eventuates but more may be revealed when the gelding contests a handicap over $100,000 2040 metres on August 4 which has been penciled in as Banca Mo’s next interstate assignment.

If Longford trainer Mick Burles presses on with his plans for The Cleaner then he could clash with Banca Mo at Moonee Valley.

The Cleaner resumed from a spell with an impressive win over 1600 metres on a heavy track at Tattersall’s Park in Hobart last Sunday, which was an outstanding effort since it was his first start for six months and his first since having bone chips removed from his fetlock joint.

Burles said The Cleaner would most likely have his next start over 2100 metres in Hobart on Sunday week and depending on how he pulls up from that start will determine whether he heads interstate.

Meanwhile Team Brunton will saddle up Punctuate at Geelong today in a benchmark 72 race over 1100 metres (race 8) in which the 76-rated gelding will carry 59kg courtesy of a three kilogram claim for Turkish apprentice Erhan Kacmaz who has been riding regularly in Tasmania.

The stable has nominated Ishtar King for a BM68 over 1200m at Ballarat on Thursday and stablemate Forest Sky for a BM72 over 1400m at the same meeting and both are guaranteed a start if the stable accepts.
