PROMISING pup Bassett (Thirteen Black-Millie Grace) will be out to notch her first juvenile win on the Launceston track when she steps out in a heat of the Gold Collar over 515 metres at the UBET Racing Centre tonight.

Bassett is prepared at Penguin by astute trainer Butch Deverell who quite openly declared the bitch to be potentially one of the best he has trained.

Deverell had great success with Big Moose that was an exceptional sprinter and while he doesn’t put Bassett in the same class yet he says she could develop into a similar quality sprinter.

Bassett comes off a very impressive win in Hobart over a 340-metre juvenile but it was her win on debut at her previous start at Devonport on November 04 that had the tipsters grasping for their black books.

“She is a promising pup and I am quietly confident she can win tonight even though she has drawn awkwardly in box four,” Deverell said.

The logical favourite is Supreme It Seems from the Gary Fahey kennel that will start from the inside box and he has terrific form and is well suited by the draw.

Kennel mates and litter sisters Classy Petal (box 5) and Amity Lass (7) from the David Crosswell kennel have been racing in and against the best juveniles about so their experience will ensure they are competitive.

The remaining heat is likely to see Crosswell’s He’s All Class start favourite even though he has drawn box four.

The dog has won his last three impressively and he is a winner on the track while his litter sister She’s A Trinket should be competitive from box three.

Vitor is ideally drawn in box one and the Andrea McConnon-trained dog is a winner on the track.

Check out all the form and tips for tonight’s meeting.
