The nation’s leading greyhound trainer Graeme Bate, from Lara inVictoria, has a runner in each of the eight heats of the Dowling McCarthy Hankook Tyres Devonport Cup run this afternoon.
Heat one will see Tasmanian champion and last years cup winner Rewind clash with the Bates runner Purcell Bale, a lightly raced youngster who has won three races in good times at Sandown from only six starts.
In heat two Bate will be represented by Gordon Bale, a winner of sixteen races. He will receive most opposition from Black Cairo, Wynburn Diamond and Franklin Blueboy.
Emerald Lee looks the one to beat in heat three while Tadmore Dunoon and New Recruit have some chance. Bate’s Schroder Bale has raced six times for a win and two placings.
In heat four Bates’ well performed Allen Benji, with 23 wins and 14 placings from 47 starts looks the one to beat.
Top Tasmanian youngster Dark Warrior will clash with Bates Laurels winner Gunda Bale in heat five, which should be worth going to watch.
Bates Arizona Bale, with a 50% winning strike rate and great recent form, will be short odds in heat six. Bergermeister and Burnt Fuse look next best.
Last years cup runner up Classy Maldini, with 34 wins, gives Bate a great chance in heat seven while Ima Fencer, on the comeback trail, is worth a watch.
Ice Trucker from box one has won 19 from 48 starts along with 18 placings and he gives Bate a strong hand in the final heat but there will be plenty of early speed in the race.
