RISING star Bergermeister smashed Group One Hobart Thousand winner Octane Show’s track record last night to prove he is more than capable of matching it with Australia’s best Group Race performers.

He stopped the clock at 25.71 which is 4 hundredths better than McDonald’s Octane Show and in doing so thrilled Mick Stringer who always believed this son of Bit Chili could be a superstar.

After a unsuccessful tilt at the Group One Maturity Classic at the Meadows, he came out all guns ablazin’ to set up a handy lead shortly after box rise, running splits of 5.14 and an incredible 11.10.

Archrival Sultan’s Swing chased valiantly and was eventually beaten by 5 1/2 lengths which still was a great run while perennial placegetter Bit Regal came home hard as usual to grab third on the line from the tiring Innisfree Miss.

Bergermeister has extended his winning record in Hobart to seven wins from eight starts and obviously enjoys racing on the U turn Hobart circuit.

Punters were confident that Bergermeister would anchor the first leg of the double sending him out a$1.70 favourite.
