ADMIRAL was Tasmania’s best two-year-old last season but according to his trainer Barry Campbell the best is yet to come.
Admiral trialled at Longford yesterday and ran second to the Adam Trinder-trained Valiant Warrior that led all the way.
Admiral was tailed out last early and ran home powerfully but it wasn’t until McCoull revealed post race that Admiral had brushed the side of the barrier that dislodged the rider’s foot from the stirrup.
The Mossman gelding was seven lengths from the second last horse at one stage but when McCoull eased him to the outside in the home straight he lengthened stride and was cruising to the leader on the line for what was clearly the best trial of the day.
Campbell has big pans for Admiral this season that could include the 3YO Cup, Tasmanian Guineas and the weight-for-age Thomas Lyons during the Tasmanian Summer Racing Carnival.
