A strong eleven event card and a terrific field for the 2011 Betfair Gold Cup await punters at Tattersall’s Park tonight.
Victorian visitor Compacto (R6) actually shades Tasmania’s champ Damek in prepost betting, mainly due to his brilliant early speed out of the boxes while Damek has not been flying out of late.
Compacto’s 8 1/2 length win over Jenmar Joker was first class recording 26.04, while Damek saluted after a skirmish mid race.
His brother Decembrist ran a close second to Mojito while Place Your Bet and Lika Whisper have been drawn inside out but both their runs last week were solid.
Damek to fly out and hold Compacto to the line with Decembrist and Mojito to fill the placings.
Painted Amigo’s (R7) brilliant 9 1/2 length win in a best of the day 25.87 at Devonport last Tuesday was brilliant and a repeat of that run gives this son of Scull Murphy a great chance to make it two in a row for Mangalore trainer Mick Stringer.
His main opposition will come from Collyn Tiger and Jimmy Be.
Russell Watts’ kennel at Moorleah has been on fire lately and he could start punter’s off with a double with Tree Bandit (R1) and Overeem (R2), both have had the one start for a win.
Best Bets: R1 No 5 Tree Bandit, R5 No 4 Shanlyn Charlie, R7 No 3Painted Amigo.
Best E/W: R2 No 8 Overeem, R9 No 2 Awesome Naz, R11 No 6 Irish Guard.
