TWO of Tasmania’s most seasoned participants Rohan Hadley and Andrew Rawlings combined to dominate at the Burnie Harness racing Club’s first meeting of the season on the North-West Coast last Friday night.
Rawlings trained three of the seven winners and Hadley drove them all and the driver also capped the night by scoring aboard the Kevin Denny-trained Odins Constantine.
It was Hadley’s first quartet of winners on the Burnie track but he also achieved the feat two meetings in succession on the Devonport track earlier this year.
Hadley’s winners for Rawlings were Uncle Buzz, next Sound and Crombie Bay that began its career with the Christian Salter stable.
Hadley’s best effort in the cart was five winners achieved on the Mowbray circuit in Launceston about four years ago.
Rawlings’ training treble equaled his previous best that was also on the Burnie layout last season.
The win by Crombie Bayin the Newman’s Plumbing Stakes was a highlight for Rawlings as the horse is a recent stable acquisition.
Crombie Bay was purchased by a couple of Rawlings’ long time stable clients for an undisclosed sum from Hobart owner-breeder Denis Mahoney.
Crombie Baywas having only his third start for Rawlings. The gelding produced a barnstorming finish to overhaul his rivals over the concluding stages.
The reason the owners were keen to secure Crombie Baywas that the gelding finished second to another of their horses Johnnyace that is highly regarded on the North-West Coast.
