PROVIDED quality mare Black ‘N’ Tough pulls up well after her impressive first-up win on her home track at Spreyton yesterday she will head to Melbourne for a race at Moonee Valley on Saturday week.
Black ‘N’ Tough resumed from a spell with a courageous victory over star three-year-old Arenzano in the fays Jewellers Diamond Bracelet over 1150 metres.
The Leon Wells-trained mare was ridden superbly by stable apprentice Rasit Yetimova who allowed the four-year-old to track Arenzano to the home turn and he waited until straightening for the run home before he called on his charge for the supreme effort.
Black ’N’ Tough moved alongside the filly and eventually drew clear close to home.
Arenzano was game in defeat and her effort was even more meritorious given the saddle slipped about 700 metres from home and it (saddle) was up around her wither by the time she reached the finish post.
Her rider Ismail Toker was still able to ride her out to the line but it obviously had some bearing on the result.
Black ‘N’ Tough is owned by Chris and Sharon Wickham who have earmarked a handicap restricted to mares or a 0-89 handicap at Moonee Valley as Black ‘N’ Tough’s next assignment.
