TOP Tasmanian mare Black ‘N’ Tough notched a sensational win at her interstate debut at Moonee Valley yesterday.
The Leon Wells-trained mare was well backed to win the $80,000 mares event over 1200 meters and with ex patriot Tasmanian jockey Craig Newitt in the saddle the five-year-old led rivals a merry chase, leading all the to score from Sirene Star that worked home well.
It was a great result for the mare’s owners Chris and Sharon Wickham who also own another star sprinting mare Rebel Bride that won the Group 3 Bow Mistress Stakes last year.
Black ‘N’ Tough is likely to return home for a spell and be set to contest the 2014 Bow Mistress.
