LONGFORD trainer John Blacker won’t be surprised if he snares the quinella in the Carbine Club 3YO Plate at Tattersall’s Park in Hobart tomorrow.
Blacker will saddle up Nuclear Hero and Miss Mars in the $30,000 feature sprint over 1100 metres.
Nuclear Hero has had only one start for an impressive win at Spreyton on Devonport Cup day and according to Blacker the gelding has done well since that win.
Miss Mars is a winner of her past two starts with the latest in a strong class two event in Hobart over 1100 metres against older and more experienced horses.
“There isn’t a lot between them but I think Nuclear Hero might be the smarter,” Blacker said.
“Miss Mars has drawn barrier one so that will suit her because she races on pace and will probably lead from that gate while Nuclear Hero will get back from his wide barrier but he has a very big finish and that could be the telling factor tomorrow.”
“It won’t surprise me if they run first and second and I don’t care in which order,” the trainer said.
Nuclear Hero is by Von Costa De Hero from Blacker’s former talented sprinter-miler Nuclear Free.
Geegees Doublejay, Demons Run, Col’s Hero and Vengeance of Fury must also be rated winning chances on exposed form.
