TALENTED harness racing trainer Justin Campbell has been spending plenty of time in the winner’s circle of late and it could continue at Tattersall’s Park in Hobart today.
Campbell has a strong team engaged but one of his better winning chances appears to be Boltnmach in race three to start at 2.21 pm (2090m) on the eight-event card.
Boltnmach is a winner of two of his past five starts with his past two outings resulting in encouraging seconds against slightly better company than he meets today.
The gelding has drawn the pole position (gate one) from where Campbell should be able to ensure he secures the lead and if that eventuates the son of Mach Three should be able dictate and be very had to beat.
The logical dangers are the Barrie Rattray-trained Double Dee and Karalta Dazzler from the Kent Rattray stable.
The Tony Petersen-trained mare Angela De Marco was a shade disappointing first-up but she had excellent form when last in work and will be improved by the first-up outing.
She must be respected despite drawing the outside of the front row.
Strange Conduct was impressive in winning the Ted Plunkett Memorial at New Norfolk on Australia Day so from gate four novice driver Matthew Howlett would only need to find a handy spot in the one-out line for the gelding to make his presence felt at the business end of proceedings.
A heat of the Allen Williams Memorial is the feature race on the program (race four) and a full field of 12 will contest the mobile event over 2090 metres starting at 2.57pm
In an open race Campbell’s lightly raced four-year-old mare Really Thirsty looms as a genuine each-way chance.
Really Thirsty debuted at Carrick in December with an encouraging third in a 3YO and upwards non-winner’s event over 2150 metres and she then stepped out at New Norfolk last Monday and finished a game second to the promising Angel or Demon.
Other chances are the Barrie Rattray-trained Barooza that was placed at her only two starts before being sent for spell in mid October last year.
Other chances are Dee Dee Bobby (5), Kirbyelle (4) and first-starter El Jays Monet that is well related and is expected to go well on debut.
