In Brief
- Mare toughs it out to record sixth win.
- Tactics played major role in outcome.
- Stormont one to watch from BM66 (1400m).
Premier trainer Scott Brunton had a lean day at the office in Hobart on Sunday but he at least emerged from the eight-event card with one winner in Born Magic.
The mare had the right form going into the race having won a trial in Hobart before heading to Launceston last Sunday week for a game second to the well-performed mudlark Reann’s Diamond.
Punters sent her around the $3 favourite and with Georgie Catania aboard she defied a tough run to emerge triumphant by a narrow margin over Silver Road and the fast-finishing Stormont.
Born magic showed brilliant gate speed to lead but apprentice Ianish Luximon was keen to keep his charge Silver Road close to the lead and punched through along the rails to join the leader 300 metres after the start.
The pair looked conjoined as they sped to the home turn with Catania opting to head wide while Luximon preferred to keep Silver Road closer to the inside rail.
Born Magic hit the line with a half-head to spare over Silver Road ($7.50) with Stormont ($7.50) the widest runner and a head away third.
Stormont was definitely one for your FORMPLUS Alerts Black Book and the winner also can win again this preparation.
