FORMER Victorian mare Bouggie Danzer well and truly paid for her travelling expenses when she scored a narrow but impressive win in a class four handicap over 1400 metres at Tattersall’s Park in Hobart on Sunday.
Formerly with Robbie Griffiths but now in the care of Brighton trainer Gary White, Bouggie Danzer was second at her Tasmanian debut in Launceston two weeks ago when she flashed home along the rails after being slowly away.
The four-year-old mare was poorly away again and rider Craig Newitt did a good job to stay in the saddle as she jumped skywards when the barrier gates flew open.
But Newitt was able to charter a course along the rails and in the home straight she knuckled down to her task and powered home along the rails to run down Isabaeva that looked to have the race ion her keeping 200m out and race leader Tough At Heart hung on for third.
“I’ve had a bit to do with this mare in Victoria and I know that when she gets onto a genuine heavy track she’s at least 10 lengths better than what she shown today,” Newitt said.
