LIGHTLY raced four-year-old Box Of Frogs got punters off to a flying start at UBET Park Hobart today with an effortless all-the-way win in the Bad Man Cider Maiden over 1100 metres.
Box Of Frogs was backed in to start the $1.60 favourite and with David Pires in the saddle he never gave those who backed him any cause for alarm.
The Scott Brunton-trained gelding debuted with an eye-catching second in Hobart late last month in a maiden won by Trot On Candy, so with that run behind him and with only five others runners in the race he made light of his task.
Box Of Frogs cruised to the line a 4-1/4 length winner over You Didn’t with Young Ashfordly almost five lengths away third ahead of first-starter Missing Link.
The trainer’s father and fellow trainer David Brunton was filling in for his son and he said the gelding had been a work in progress.
“The horse has issues and that’s why he is a four-year-old having only his second start but he has ability and that will get him a bit further – we hope,” Dave Brunton said.
“He is a horse that has to be well managed and as long as he can keep improving there’s no reason why he won’t win again,” he said.
