BREAKER’S TIP is likely to line up in the Nelson Cup division one final as favourite on the strength of his impressive heat win on Monday night.
The Gary Fahey-trained dog made the most of the inside draw and once on the lure he gave nothing else a chance.
Breaker’s Tip hit the line with over a length to spare from Lorus Time that trailed the winner throughout with outsider Simpsons Bay an eye-catching third ahead of Nicknac Norris.
The winner stopped the clock at 29.70 which was many lengths quicker than the other heat winner Loch Leven that covered the 515m in 30.15.
Breaker’s Tip is one of the state’s best-performed sprinters with this latest win his 17th from 31 starts and he also has notched nine minor placings.
His record on the Launceston circuit is impeccable having won seven of his nine starts on the circular layout
Loch Leven was well backed to start the second favourite behind Prescribe in their heat but he was gifted the race when Prescribe ($1.80 fixed odds) fell soon after the start.
Loch Leven began well from box one to hold the lead at the first turn and then gave nothing else a chance as he powered home to score with plenty in reserve from Gemstone Jack and Chicka Scott with Wynburn Loco running on to grab fourth to earn a berth in the final.
