BREAKER’S TIP added another feature race to his growing list of feature race wins when he emerged triumphant in a three-way photo finish in the Tasmanian Gold Cup final over 461 metres at UBET Park Hobart last night.
The Gary Fahey-trained dog showed his customary early speed to eventually find the lead from box six but unlike many of his previous outings he was unable to shake off the challengers at the home turn.
Breaker’s Tip had to dig deep over the final stages to score by a nose from Long View Belle with Elite Enfield only a half-head astern in a three-way photo-finish.
It was a game win by Breaker’s Tip because he wasn’t comfortable on the rain-soaked track but as all good dogs do, he refused to wilt when the others came at him close to home.
Breaker’s Tip took his record on the Hobart circuit to seven wins from 16 starts but he also has a half-dozen minor placings.
He has won 24 of his 41 starts and with 11 minor prizes he remains one of the most consistent dogs racing in Tasmania.
Breaker’s Tip will be one of the state’s best chances to make it to the Group 1 Hobart Thousand final next month.
