Devonport Breeders Classic winner Recall returns to the track of his biggest on Wednesday afternoon when the North West Greyhound Racing Club stage a rare Wednesday twilight meeting.

Trainer Jack Jury has knocked back an offer already for the handy chaser that will make the trip from Brighton to the north-west coast with his kennel star to contest a Grade 5 event over 452 metres.

The Superior Product – Princess Roman chaser has exceeded expectations in his four starts to date, including a good win in the Breeders Classic Final on 22 September where he defeated a field of progressive talents in 25.65s.

“I had gone up that day with no expectations given the quality of the field and was hoping he might run third or fourth, he came out humming and put the pressure on to win really well,” said trainer Jack Jury.

The chaser has had two starts in Hobart since, including a last-start win on 8 October in a best of the night 25.67s for the 461-metre trip.

“They come down on him the week before and he just couldn’t get going, he needed the room to try and run and he found a bit of trouble before flying home late. A week later he had the room and came out and ran really well in the best of the night on a wet track,” explained the trainer.

Recall was to contest the Gold Collar heats in Launceston on Monday, however due to a lack of nominations the race became a straight out final, which saw the trainer have to adjust his plans.

Launceston is a track Recall is yet to race at but has been the talk of the track after some impressive trial performances.

“He has been trialling in Launceston, he was humming his first look there and I couldn’t believe it, and then I took him back a week later where he ran a similar time, but he missed the kick but flew down the back,” Jury said.

Wednesday’s race could also determine if the chaser will be aimed at the Group 3 Devonport Chase later this month, but the trainer admits he has “a lot of options, and hopefully, I can enjoy the ride.”

“It depends on what he does on Wednesday, if he was to run something really well, I would think about it, he is up against Siberia so it will give me a gage,” said the trainer.

“I think it may be a little bit too soon, I have to keep on telling myself he has only had four race starts and I’m trying not to get ahead of myself and do the right things and take little steps,” added Jury.

Recall has drawn box four, with his main danger Siberia in box two.

“If my bloke can lead I think he will take a bit of catching, but if Siberia leads he will then take a bit of catching. Siberia is a really good dog that has been there and done it, while my dog is still young and green but in saying that does the right things,” said Jury who races the dog with his partner Sherilyn Archer.

Bank Book is another runner for the Jury kennel racing on the Devonport card in the second event.

“He is not blessed with the early speed like Recall has got, when they were getting broken in he had the edge on Recall and then Recall flicked the switch but Bank Book just knows how to race. His last win in Devonport he got a few checks and it was no special time but he knows how to race, he is no world-beater, but he will win his share of races,” explained the trainer.

Wendesday’s meeting sees a number of chasers continue their path to the Group 3 Devonport Chase later in the month, with the 10-race card commencing at 15:21 and will be shown on TasracingTV and all races will be shown on Sky Racing 2.
