TALENTED two-year-old pacer Broadband made amends for two recent defeats with an impressive all-the-way win in a prelude of the Betfair Sweepstakes for colts and geldings over 1609m at Tattersall’s Park in Hobart on Wednesday night.

Broadband stepped well from the mobile and after a stoush with pole marker Punt Road Disco driver Paul Ashwood urged Broadband to the front and he was never headed on his way to a convincing win over outsider Call The Marshall with Punt Road Disco third.

Broadband (Our Sir Vancelot-Just Effie) was having his fifth start and was one of the most experienced juveniles in the race.

He won at his first two tries but had his colours lowered at his two subsequent outings.

The remaining colts and geldings prelude produced one of the most thrilling finishes seen at Tattersall’s Park this season.

The Big Parade emerged triumphant despite facing the breeze throughout but only a metre separated the five runners on the line.

The Big Parade (Art Major-Beena Karalta) scored by a short-half head from race leader Brookfield Lad (Artiscape-Dolly Girl) with Mister Boswell the same margin astern and just in advance of Parkmount Fella and Majestic Art.

The $25,000 Betfair Sweepstakes final for colts and geldings will be run at Tattersall’s Park on April 17 with the winners of each prelude exempt from ballot.
