Leading team of David and Scott Brunton trained half the card at yesterday’s quality 10 race programme in Hobart.

The Bruntons’ started the day well with consistent four year olds, Emerald Vale (Ed Brennen) and Lord Stamford (Steve Maskiell) finally breaking their maiden status in the 1100 metre and 1400 metre maidens respectively.

Stable apprentice James Riordan rode the first leg of a winning double on Tetsuro in the Maiden/Class 1 mile. He teamed up again in the last race of the day on the Bruntons’ classy mare Testamarriage to win in a top quality Class 6 sprint.

From a future perspective, perhaps the best performance of the day came from the Bruntons’ impressive Blevic three year old, Fierezza, who easily completed a hat trick in the 1600 metre 0-66 handicap with Brendan McCoull on board. This horse should have little trouble continuing his run through the grades and the team is confident he can ultimately develop into a Cup’s contender.

The Bruntons’ have trained 71 winners this season with an impressive strike rate of 21%. With 5 meetings remaining, they are 30 wins clear of Charlie Goggin in a lop-sided premiership race.

End.
