TRAINER Shane Whitney knows what it takes to make a good stayer having enjoyed success with Chinatown Lad and Fallen Zorro that dominated national staying events a few years ago.

While he might not have any dogs of that calibre in his midst at present he does have one that shows staying potential.

Brutal Force is a two-year-old dog that has had only 11 starts and in Hobart last Thursday night he notched his first win on the track from six tries.

He began well from box eight and ran a straight line to the 340-metre boxes where he started his drift down to the rail.

He checked off heels nearing the top turn losing valuable ground as Glamour Gas (3) sped clear with the well backed Teemac (1) hot in pursuit.

Teemac and Glamour Gas looked set to battle it out with Brutal Force (Trendy Leigh-Larkhill Bess) five lengths off them 50 metres out.

But Whitney’s dog put in the big strides and so fast did he finish she ended up scoring by 1-1/2 lengths from Teemac and Glamour Gas that dead-heated for second.

Brutal Force has always shown staying promise and ironically he was bred by Katrina Gregory who owned Chinatown Lad.
