Buckle Up Barry broke through for a deserved victory last night in his 17th start.
Owned by Leith breeder Robyn Johnson (wife of trainer Gary) and trained by Kevin Cocks at Bridgewater this El Galo pup has been knocking on the door in his last few starts running 2nd to Bearville Phil at Devonport last month beaten 2 ¼ lengths in 25.91 and then last week at Hobart ran a terrific second to smart dog Ready to Rock in 26.24.
Jumping from the check he again, as customary, was slow out but mustered speed to lead at the second split (11.40).
Bazza then opened up a race winning lead to blitz his rivals by 6 ¾ from Gold Challenge with Classic Delta a further 2 ¼ lengths away third.
Having had Buckle Up Barry since he was broken in it has been a long road for Kevin and brother Charlie to get him into the winner’s circle but all that may be behind them as he looks to have plenty of wins in store over the coming months.
