STAR Tasmania greyhound Buckle Up Wes was denied back-to-back Group 1 wins when he suffered multiple checks that ended his chances of taking out the Golden Easter Egg final at WentworthPark in Sydney last night (Saturday).
Buckle Up Wes was sent out the odds-on favourite to win the Group 1 event over 520 metres and soon after the lids released the Ted Medhurst-trained dog made the most of his box one draw to share the lead with Magic Display (5) at the first turn.
But when Magic Display crossed down and bumped the Tasmanian dog he responded by running up the track to retaliate but in doing that he gave the eventual winner Tonk a saloon passage run along the rails to take the lead.
Buckle Up Wes was subsequently relegated to third and when trying to get back into the race he ran into the back of the pack when Hawk Alone (8) crossed down from out wide and that cost him any chance of winning.
Tonk went on to win comfortably from Hawk Alone and Warrior King while Buckle Up Wes ran on gamely to finish fourth.
