PREMIER Tasmanian harness trainer Phillip Ford predicts a bright future for Brian Buster Brown that demolished a handy field in the opening race on the eight-event card in Launceston last Sunday.

Brian Buster Brown led but when driver Nathan Ford released the reins in the home straight the four-year-old stallion left his rivals in his wake and went on to score by almost 16 metres from The Detonator with Little Elf a head away third.

The winner is related to Bitofastrongarm that was a late maturer and Ford believes Brian Buster Brown is following in his half-brother’s footsteps.

Bitofastrongarm didn’t race until he was three but most of his wins came at four, finishing his racing career with 12 wins.

“I think this horse will get better with age just like Bitofastrongarm,” Ford said.

“Early on he was far from being a potential star so we turned him out to mature a bit. ”

“Since then the horse has improved with each run,” he said.

Ford said Brian Buster Brown will be given a three-week spell to take in some spring grass and then return for the better races in the coming months.

Ford ended the night with a double when his seasoned performer Ulos won the Bullock Consulting Claimer over 2200 metres, also with his nephew Nathan Ford in the sulky.
