TRAINER Barry Campbell left his star two-year-old at home yesterday but he still emerged from the meeting in Hobart with another juvenile win from his stable second stringer Calavera that gave his rivals a galloping lesson in the $30,000 Autumn 2YO Plate on a heavy track at Tattersall’s Park.
Calavera went into the race with wins at his two previous starts this preparation but it was the first time he had met with a seriously rain affected track.
Rider Brendon McCoull was hard at it 500 metres from home but the liver chestnut gelding responded magnificently to his strong riding and cruised past his rivals in the home straight to score comfortably.
Calavera hit the line well clear of Geegees Goldengirl with race leader Flying Flo Jo a close-up third.
