SPREYTON trainer Barry Campbell confirmed the sky could be the limit for Bionic Star after the talented three-year-old kept his unbeaten from three starts intact in the $30,000 Tony Carrick 3YO Vase over 1100m at Tattersall’s Park in Hobart on Sunday.
Bionic Star showed his customary early speed to lead but despite being shadowed by eventual runner-up Predator for most of the trip Campbell’s charge emerged triumphant by over a length.
Bionic Star had to lug his handicap weight of 59 kilograms plus the 1kg allowance for the jockey’s vest while Predator lugged the minimum of 54kg.
The Bianconi gelding was ridden by Bren don McCoull who said it was a satisfactory win but nothing spectacular.
Bionic Star won on debut as a two-year-old after which he was spelled and returned top racing with an emphatic win in a class one against older and more experienced horses, winning by almost four lengths and never left third gear.
Campbell was delighted with this latest effort and confirmed he would press on to the 3YO Cup in Launceston on November 23 after which he would map out a program during the AAMI Tasmanian Summer Racing Carnival.
