PROMINENT Tasmanian harness racing owner Malcolm Campbell attended last Saturday’s Tasmanian Premier Yearling Sale with no intention of buying a horse but ended up writing a cheque for two of the 31 youngsters that went under the hammer at the Inveresk Sales Complex in Launceston.
Campbell and his future daughter-in-law Maree Fasali went halves in an impeccably bred filly by first season sire Safari from Elegant Notch for which they parted with only $2000.
Campbell also purchased Lot 25, a Pacific Fella-Family Nac filly whose grand dam is a half-sister to former Tasmanian derby winner Kotare Kiwi.
Only 31 lots were on offer at the sale but there were a few bargains on the day of which the Safari filly was one.
