Master trainer of two-year-olds Barry Campbell looks poised to produce another juvenile winner on his home track at Spreyton on Wednesday.
The Campbell-trained Teriki will be having her second start in the StrideMASTER Maiden over 1000 metres and looks set to open her account. The Written Tycoon filly made her debut at Spreyton 10 days ago when a close second to Armagonnagettum in a similar race. She had previously won two trials and was heavily backed to start $2.40 favourite. With that run under her belt, she will strip fitter against opposition that doesn’t look quite as strong and gets her chance to go one better.
Campbell also looks to have a good chance of winning the Simons Design Centre Class 1 Plate with It’s Unstoppable. It’s Unstoppable was originally trained in Victoria by Mark Riley who sent Campbell the prolific winner Innocent Gamble. Although It’s Unstoppable looks unlikely to reach the same heights, he has been competitive at all five runs for the Campbell stable. His last run was a close third to Windell and Toakio Tower when he hit the front on the home turn but couldn’t quite hold on.
Toakio Tower, another former Victorian now trained at Longford by Paul Hill, again looks the hardest to beat.
The seven-race Spreyton meeting is an addition to the calendar, replacing last week’s midweek meeting at Hobart that had to be abandoned due to the state of the track.
The other two races that had been scheduled for Hobart were conducted at Launceston on Sunday.
