IMPROVED box manners paved the way for Canadian Bay’s impressive win in the Easter Purse final over 461 metres at Tattersall’s Park in Hobart last Thursday night.

Canadian Bay began well from box four but instead of trying to find the rail where there was plenty of congestion, he stayed wide to avoid the trouble that loomed approaching the home turn.

When he hit the home straight he slipped into overdrive and powered homer to score by over a length from race leader Bet On Black with Trackside Girl over two lengths away third.

Canadian Bay is trained by Margaret Rossendell but it was her daughter Amanda Grice who handled the dog and accepted the trophy.

“This dog keeps on improving and I’m sure he has a bright future,” Grice said”

“He did the smart thing in the run tonight and that’s a good sign that he’s learning.”

“He had a bit of a problem early on by not beginning too well but he’s getting better and tonight’s win was his best effort,” she said.

Canadian Bay (Hades Rocket-Jemma’s Image) is owned in Victoria by Emma Gibilisco and this was his 12th start in Tasmania for two wins and five minor placings.
