WHEN Candy Spice was sent to Tasmania recently it was to be mated with Tasmanian-based sire Decembrist.
But when she proved not to be in season her NSW-based owner Shane Bond suggested to friend and Tasmanian trainer Patrick Hall that she might be worth putting back in training.
That decision resulted in her winning at her first start in six months at The TOTE Racing Centre in Launceston on Monday night.
Candy Spice began her career in Tasmania when in the care of David Crosswell who sold her to Victorian interests but she was eventually purchased by Shane Bond who was interested in her as a potential broodbitch because he also owns Candy Spice’s mother Paua To Explode.
“We will put her in a 340-metre sprint in Hobart in a fortnight and after that she will hopefully come in season and she will go to Decembrist,” Hall said.
