TALENTED Tasmanian harness racing trainer Rohan Hillier was far from surprised when Capricorn Cruiser scored an upset win over his stablemate and odds-on favourite Waiona in a handicap race at Tattersall’s Park in Hobart on Monday night.

With ace reinsman Nathan Ford in the sulky, Capricorn Cruiser ($6.20) ended up in the one-out-one-back position on the back of Waiona ($1.80) from the half-way mark of the 2090-metre event.

Those who backed Waiona at the short odds would have been discarding their betting tickets before the home turn as he weakened visibly while his stablemate Capricorn Cruiser set sail after the leader The Musics Over and had that horse covered 200 metres from home.

Capricorn Cruiser went on to defeat The Musics Over by 3-1/2 metres with Teejay Fella a half-length away third and two metres in advance of Jilliby Rio.

Waiona finished fifth and over 10 metres from the winner.

Hillier was delighted with the win and predicted the pint-sized 10-year-old has the capabilities to win more races.
