CASSO MAC GEORGE scored arguably the best win of his career when he led all the way to defeat the in-form Korongah Gem.
The son of Pure Octane has only had 13 starts for seven wins and four minor placings but this latest victory signaled his arrival as a dog with a future.
He was only fairly away from box two but he mustered speed quickly to squeeze up inside of Korongah Gem (4) that began well from box four.
The pair wheeled around the home turn together and in the end only a half-length separated the pair on the line after matching motors all the way up the home straight.
The winner stopped the clock at 26.41, which was a couple of lengths outside his personal best on the track (26.30).
Casso Mac George is owned and raced by S McMahon, David Cassidy and his son John Cassidy.
He has won on all three tracks and should continue to be competitive in whatever he contests in the coming months.
Korongah Gem, in which this writer has a share, was game in defeat but she did have every chance to run the leader down in the home straight.
The reserve Beijing Bond finished third and not far from the winner with outsider Trew Chase a close-up fourth.
