SMART two-year-old pacer Quastor Centurion resumed from an illness-enforced spell with a game win in a heat of the Dandy Patch at Tattersall’s Park in Hobart on Sunday night.

Quastor Centurion was withdrawn from the Betfair Sweepstakes final in early May due to a cold and while the gelding’s owners were keen to see him run in the Sweepstakes final trainer Kent Rattray had the final say and sent him for a short spell.

While this latest win was not terribly impressive, he did enough to keep his unbeaten record from sox starts intact.

With his regular driver Erin Hollaway in the cart, Quastor Centurion led from gate two and did enough over the concluding stages to hold out Bettor Draw that faced the breeze throughout with Poker Storm a metre astern.

Hollaway was full of praise for the gelding that clocked a mile rate of 2m.04.7s and ran home his last half (800m) in 59.9s.

“He felt good tonight and will obviously benefit from the run,” Hollaway said.
