CHICK COM has a trait of missing the start in her races but her will to win and good track sense helped her score her first win in Tasmania last Thursday night.

Chick Com began slowly from box two and had a wall of dogs ahead of her heading to the top turn but she managed to weave a passage through to challenge at the top of the straight and then had to dig deep to hold out the fast-finishing Larkhill Man over the concluding stages.

She showed great courage to fight off Larkhill ManThe Brendan Pursell-trained bitch was having only her second start in the state and while the trainer is concerned about her tardy box manners he still believes she has the potential to win more races.

“This bitch can run and she showed that tonight but at the moment she is very tardy from the boxes and that usually means trouble,” Pursell said.

“Tonight she drove through and got in a winning position but if she continues to be slowly away, more often that not she is going to get checks when trying to improve.”

“With time she could improve her manners and if she does then I reckon she has what it takes to go through her grades,” he said.

Pursell is a bit more excited about her litter brother Gatty Com Vapour Whirl-Kirabilli Jessie) that has won his past four in succession and will take on the best at his next outing on Thursday night in a state heat of the National Sprint Championship series.
