WELL bred harness racing stallion Chief Marty will stand in Tasmania this season.
Chief Marty (Western Hanover-Ladykin Hanover) stood in Victoria and Western Australia these past two seasons respectively so it is something of a coup that Cressy trainer-breeder Geoff Madden has been able to secure the stallion.
Chief Marty has an excellent record at stud from limited opportunities.
His first crop in Canada won $1.5 million and he was third on the two-year-old sires’ list with only 45 foals.
Chief Marty was the leading percentage sire of two-year-olds in his first two seasons and had a 59 per cent winners-to-foals ratio, which is quite amazing,” Madden said.
Chief Marty arrives at Madden’s Thirstane Stud in Northern Tasmania this week and will stand at an unbelievably low service fee of $1350, which is $300 less than his fee in WA last season.
The stallion has been in demand from interstate studs since he first arrived in the country.
Chief Marty has a double cross of Tar Heel on his sire’s side and Tar Heel appears in his dam’s side back three generations.
Chief Marty was well performed on the track winning 15 including feature race at two.
His sire, Western Hanover, is the leading stake money sire of all-time and his dam Ladykin Hanover has produced 13 foals and all have won.
Chief Marty’s oldest Australian progeny are yearlings.
