TASMANIA’S chief thoroughbred stewards Wade Hadley has resigned to take up a position with Racing Victoria towards the end of November.
Hadley has occupied the chairman’s role with Racing Services for the past eight years but he also has worked with the harness and greyhound codes during his 13-year tenure as a Tasmanian steward.
The Director of Racing Tony Murray said Hadley is not only a top steward but he is a great communicator and believes he will be a big asset to the RVL stewards’ panel but at the same time will be a major loss for Tasmania.
“Wade is an outstanding steward. I have previously stated that I rank him in the top three stewards across Australia and I firmly believe that to be true,” Murray said.
“He is highly skilled in each of the three codes, which is a great testament to the stewards’ training regime we have here in Tasmania.”
“As well as his overall stewarding skills, he is an excellent communicator who has forged high-level professional relationships with key stakeholders, both locally and interstate as well as providing significant mentoring for stewards in Tasmania,” he said.
Hadley said it was not an easy decision to leave the state but in the end he felt he needed a new challenge and the Racing Victoria position will fill that void.
Hadley’s will officiate at his last meeting in Tasmania on November 23, a night meeting in Launceston (Newmarket Handicap).
